About the project
Summary
The Pinkoi B2B wholesale shopping website is designed to serve as a one-stop international wholesale procurement platform. Users can purchase high-quality design products available on Pinkoi. After registration, buyers can view the purchase quantities, retail and wholesale prices of various products, and proceed to checkout directly. This streamlined process replaces the previously manual and cumbersome business inquiries.
In addition to the convenience of shopping, the one-stop procurement service not only offers a fully English website but also provides professional support for payment, shipping, and communication-related matters. Beyond the convenience of purchasing, it simplifies the complex processes of communication and negotiation between sellers and international buyers, offering a comprehensive solution for wholesale buyers and sellers.

Project Hypothesis & Goals
Starting from international trade shows and wholesale buyers, this B2B wholesale shopping platform has witnessed a growing demand from numerous buyers and corporate entities for purchasing design products. Within the existing wholesale processes, manual workflows predominantly rely on back-and-forth phone calls and emails for communication. This consumes a significant amount of time and human resources to secure orders.
Based on Pinkoi's extensive portfolio of design brands and product information from its retail shopping platform, provide whole new wholesale process. This innovation promises substantial time and cost savings, expected to generate significant revenue for brands and promote the expansion and growth of these brands both domestically and internationally.

The Progress
This project is managed by the Seller Squad Team with the goal of completing a brand-new website in 2.5 months. The team consists of 1 Product Manager (PM), 2 Backend Engineers (BE), 1.5 Frontend Engineers (FE), and 2 Product Designers. The task at hand is to design all the pages efficiently within a short timeframe, with both designers working on building the Design Library, page structures, and details.
I am responsible for designing the homepage, product pages, and the shopping cart checkout page. This includes all aspects of UI design, UX processes, defining functional logic, interaction design, user interviews, and testing, among others.
Having gone through various small and large projects related to Pinkoi's buyer and seller backend systems, designers need to possess the ability to design efficiently, engage in discussions with engineers, and make quick decisions. The challenge in this project lies in acquiring domain knowledge related to wholesale procurement. This efficient development process led to the successful completion of the website within 3 months.

Design System
Starting with Pinkoi's brand design as a foundation, making adjustments and refinements, and collaborating with frontend engineers to select the UI development framework, a design system was rapidly adjusted and constructed. Through testing with the wholesale team and individual users, the goal was to achieve an interface design that is "clear, minimalist, and highly readable," meet the wholesale buyers needs.

Product Page Design
In the wholesale procurement field, wholesale prices can vary depending on the purchase quantity, logistics dimensions and contents, and even the scale of the brand. Unlike regular retail, unregistered users can only view retail prices. Once they pass verification and log in, they will gain access to wholesale prices and more detailed information.
Furthermore, in this industry, purchasers need to quickly assess prices and product features among numerous brands. Detailed textual descriptions of products are not their primary concern. Unlike typical e-commerce platforms, procurement professionals prioritize "high readability," "clean and minimalist layout," and the need to "highlight product features."

Cart Page Design
In the wholesale procurement domain, Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) or Minimum Order Value (MOV) restrictions are common. Therefore, it's essential to provide additional prompts on the shopping cart page. In this design, a button would display the remaining amount needed, and when pressed, it would take the buyer to the brand's page to help them fulfill the requirement.
Additionally, even though it's a one-stop shopping experience, there may still be various text note requirements for the purchases. In addition, on the shopping cart page, special emphasis is placed on expanding the notes field to make it easier for users to fill in their necessary information.

Takeaways & Learning
1. Highly Executable and Rapid Decision-Making:
-
This project operates under tight timelines, requiring the construction of an e-commerce website from scratch within a short timeframe. Key factors enabling success include having a team of experienced members, constant communication with stakeholders and the executive team, and the ability to make any quick decisions within 8 hours. The team comprises seasoned professionals familiar with e-commerce website architecture and processes. The challenge lies in rapidly acquiring knowledge related to wholesale procurement. Therefore, everyone in the project is involved from the start, enabling synchronized knowledge-building while constructing the framework. High-intensity discussions and swift decision-making facilitate rapid project progression while allowing for flexible adjustments.

2. Flexible use for Various Strategies and Techniques:
-
Due to time constraints, we have adopted existing development programs and packages, making design adjustments within the existing framework. When the existing solutions couldn't meet design requirements, we created new components. After multiple iterations of Design Library construction and collaboration with frontend engineers, efficient to build infrastructure, leading to smooth page design. This approach also allowed us to utilize extra time for contemplating the interaction effects between design elements.
3. When Business encounter the COVID:
-
Originally intended for international business exhibitions, this project faced challenges due to the pandemic, resulting in the cancellation of planned events. The sales team transitioned to phone and online communication. Subsequently, the application found relevance in various scenarios such as the Taiwan Design Exhibition and fulfilling orders for bulk quantities both domestically and internationally. It is anticipated that as the pandemic subsides and international transportation normalizes, the website will find application in a wide range of online and offline senecios, with a diverse and extensive scope for the future.
